Clos Figueras - Clos Figueres 2018 (750ml) MâconnaisThe 2018 Clos Figueres follows the path of cleanliness and precision of the 2017 in a better vintage. Its Garnacha and Cariena from old vines with Cabernet sauvignon, Syrah and Monastrell, which seems to be a Mediterranean grape that is coming out of the closet in Priorat. It fermented and matured in new and second use 300 and 500 liter French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months. Its powerful and ripe at 15% alcohol, but with a low pH and good freshness.

while the finish is moderately silky in texture yet zesty

Intense and persistent nose of red fruit and vegetal notes

loganberry and anise giving way to an equally understated core of the same

and the rest Cabernet Franc brought up in 60% new French oak

giving a Pinot Grigio quite distinct from most of its northern counterparts

and juicy red currants

ripe and generous red fruit is wrapped in moderate tannins for good structure and some aging potential

it is a long and well structured wine where the same hints already found in the nose appear

but readers should not be looking at this as an easygoing wine for near-term drinking
